We are a 501(3)c nonprofit organization approved for rescue in Alabama and Georgia. We are run entirely by volunteers dedicated to the rescue of unwanted, neglected, and abandoned boxers. We are always in need of qualified homes for life for our dogs, transportation, temporary foster care, monetary donations for veterinary care, high-quality dog food and other supplies.

Boxers come to us from shelters, as strays, and owner surrenders because of death, divorce, or relocation. They are housed by foster homes where they are temperament tested and seen by a veterinarian for shots, heartworm testing, and spay or neuter.

Alabama Spay Neuter License Plate
The Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation (ALVMF) has received approval from the Alabama Legislature to offer a Spay-Neuter license plate to state residents. The efforts to have this accomplished have been in-depth, but thanks to the persistence of the association and foundation leadership, it has finally come to fruition.

The cost of the tag is the standard $50 like other specialized tags, with $41.25 of each sale going to the Foundation to assist low-income families with the cost of spaying and neutering their pets.  1,000 tags must be pre-sold in order for the program to be implemented.  The law requires the 1,000 mark must be met within 12 months from the date the Legislative Oversight Committee completes the final procedures for the actual sale

The program will be administered by the Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation. Individual humane societies and animal care and control agencies will not receive direct funding from this, but we need to promote the license plates in our communities. The program will be available (after 1,000 tags are pre sold) to people who are on Medicaid. They will be able to get their pets fixed through this program by going to their local participating veterinary clinic. A list of these clinics will be forth coming in the next few months.

This is an exciting program that can make a huge difference in our state. Please get the word out to your members and supporters through your local media, newsletters and other means. If the media wish to talk with someone about this exciting program, please direct them to Dr. Charles Franz, or Rick Derrick at (334) 395-0086.
